Horseshoe jewelry has been in style for a very long time and it's doubtful it will ever go out of style. Horseshoes historically were in common use in the Middle Ages, and one supposes it was considered great good luck to keep horses from going lame, and gradually the horseshoe itself became a symbol of good luck. Most people tend to hang the shoe so the ends of the shoe point upward and think of the U shape is as a shape that surrounds the hoof and so contains good fortune and in that way the luck is available to be used when needed. We rather like that theory, since good horse must be sound, and a good horse is something we all consider to be VERY good fortune.
