Saddlebred history stories about
Saddlebreds in their own lifetimes, which we hope are both
useful and interesting, have been included in the offerings of this website and
the individual stories and articles are listed and linked below. There have been
many famous and outstanding individuals in the foundations of the breed and the
history of the bloodstock. It would be a huge task to outline the entire history
of the breed, but a few of the breed's stars are addressed, including a couple
of the very most famous of Saddle Horse stallions. Check back as more will be
added as time permits. In
Saddlebred history,
the Saddle Horse as a "type" , has been clearly
recognized and bred for specific characteristics since the days when America was
fighting for Independence as a country. This horse had already helped build the
budding country and after the country was independent, continued to assist in
the growth and exploration of the country from east to west, from south to
north.
This horse existed no place else in the world, but was developed in America
being selectively bred and formed right along with the country, and suited to
the county's many needs. It is no wonder the breed was then named the American Saddlebred. A study of Saddlebred history tells that while always an easy and
good riding, or driving horse, it was discovered that no job humans might need a
horse to do was too tough. With willingness, ability and spirit these horses
accomplished any task, usually very well, and to top it off they added style and
elegance.
As the country was settled, horse shows became common and this breed topped the
charts dominating the show world, a position that is maintained to this day.
Only recently has this breed begun to reclaim recognition of their extreme
athletic ability in other sport horse arenas and other disciplines. Yet
Saddlebreds remain always a pleasure to ride and partner - they were and are
bred this way
